What to wear under a sports hijab

What you wear under your sports hijab decides whether it stays put, stays opaque and stays comfortable. Here is the simple setup.

Do you need an inner cap?

Not always. The Lite Sports Hijab has a built-in headband panel, so many people wear it on its own. An inner helps if:

• Your hair is fine or slippery and the hijab tends to slide.
• You want extra coverage at the hairline during inversions, burpees or headers.
• You like a base layer that absorbs sweat at the forehead.

Choose a breathable inner for sport. The AirFlow Tie-back Inner is light mesh that ties at the back, so it adds grip without trapping heat. For fuller coverage at the neck, there is the AirFlow Ninja Inner.

Your hair

• Low bun or ponytail at the nape. It anchors the hijab and keeps the back flat.
• Soft hair ties. Avoid metal clips that press under the fabric.
• Dry hair if you can. Tying wet hair under a hijab for a long session is uncomfortable in humid weather.

Earbuds and headphones

Put wireless earbuds in first, then the hijab over them, smoothing the fabric flat across your ears. Over-ear headphones go on top of the hijab.

The top you pair it with

• A fitted long-sleeve or tee lets you tuck the hijab ends in so they do not swing.
• Breathable, quick-dry fabric matches the hijab so you are not cool on top and soaked below.
• A higher neckline gives seamless coverage where the hijab meets your top.

Common questions

Will a sports hijab go see-through when I sweat?

A good sports hijab keeps the front opaque. On the Lite Sports Hijab, the mesh is at the back for airflow and the front gives full coverage.

Is an inner too hot for the gym?

A thick cotton one can be. A light mesh inner like the AirFlow is designed to breathe.

Can I wear a cap or visor over a sports hijab?

Yes, for running or hiking in the sun. Put the cap on last so it does not pull the hijab back.
